        LEON VOLKMAR SIGNED AND DATED ART POTTERY VASE Bedford Village, NY, dated 1931, incised Volkmar. mark, of tapering conical form, in pocked flambe deep pink and eggplant glazes, h: 7 5/8 in. Provenance: Estate of Ronald Sperling Literature: Leon Volkmar (1879-1959), the son of potter Charles Volkmar, is recorded as the Art Director at Durant Kiln in the early 20th century. The founder Jean Durant Rice dies in 1919, leaving the business to Volkmar. After 1930 the name Durant Kilns was changed and only the Volkmar mark was used.
