    Gustave Villebesseyx (French/Flemish, 1838-1898), "Le Cours de la Rëyne (A Royal Carriage on an Avenue)" and "L'Eglise de St. Pierre (A Hilltop Church above a Town)", oils on canvas, each signed lower right and titled lower center, each 101 in. x 43 1/2 in., unframed. Note : An accomplished architect and landscape painter, Villebesseyx made his first debut at the Salon of 1870 These large panels most likely were created as installations for the interior of a grand Beaux Arts house or other project. The artist combines both aspects of his training to create trompe l'oeil architectural motifs to frame the two broad landscapes."
