Laurent Vicomte Art for Sale at Auction

b. 1956 -

Laurent Vicomte , born on March 25 , 1956 in Sainte-Adresse in France , is a French cartoon author .

In spite of the few published albums (five albums in thirty years), the quality of these makes that it is considered as one of the major authors of the contemporary comic strip [ref. necessary] .

It was in 1975 that his first works appeared in the daily La Presse de la Manche , which entrusted him with the production of a few commercials, and then the same year, in the column Carte Blanche of the Journal de Spirou .

In 1977 , Vicomte went to Paris. There he meets Jean-Pierre Gourmelen who writes for him the strips of Gus and Ainsifutil , then Jean-Michel Charlier , then editor-in-chief of the Journal de Tintin , where he creates his first series, Edouard and Lucie . Then come, still in a light and semi humorous style the character of Clopin for the newspaper Pistil , and more and more illustrations for Scout magazines.

In 1981 , Vicomte met Pierre Makyo , also a beginner. They imagine together the Walk at the end of the world , a series in four episodes prepublished in the newspapers Gomme! then Circus . From the first volume published by Glénat , the success is at the rendezvous: won the realism, the drawing of Vicomte seduced, until Jacques Chirac, still mayor of Paris, which in 1982 , gives in person to Vicomte and Makyo the Grand Prix of his city.

The stroll at the end of the world becomes one of the best-sellers of the comics of the 1980s: four albums between 1981 and 1988 , more than a million copies sold and, for Laurent Vicomte, an author recognition. At the same time, together with Jean Léturgie , Vicomte created Éditions Dessis, which published in 1985 a cover of short stories by Clopin , then a collection of preparatory sketches by André Franquin for the cartoon Les Tifous .

In 1989 , despite the pressure of its readers and publisher, Vicomte refuses to give a follow-up to the Walk at the end of the world . He hands over to Herenguel and leaves Paris to settle in Perros-Guirec . He meets his friend Régis Loisel and meets Jean-Charles Kraehn . Together, they created L'Atelier du Granit , which saw the birth of the first volume of Peter Pan and Bout d'homme , and founded the Perros-Guirec Comic Book Festival .

He works alone and almost exclusively with Sasmira , a character and a story he has been dreaming of since the last straight of the Walk at the end of the world . After several years of waiting and silence, the first volume of Sasmira , The Call , appeared in September 1997. It is hailed by the public as the most successful album of its author and crowned with rewards in many festivals.

Volume 2 of Sasmira , The False Note , is announced several times by the author and / or the publisher (in 2000, 2004 and 2009) 1 . The graphic requirement of Viscount, its slowness to the work as well as the lack of information as for the progress of the boards made this volume 2 one of the most awaited albums in the history of the comic. The album finally appeared on November 30, 2011, after 15 years of waiting 2 . He is co-designed with Claude Pelet.

A documentary entitled Laurent Vicomte, Entretemps tells the story of this album and was previewed at the 39th International Comic Strip and Image Festival of Angoulême in January 2012.
