A Complete Wooden Aileron Rib, from the Vickers Vimy Bomber, flown by Alcock & Browne across the Atlantic in 1919, in the first non-stop transatlantic air crossing. When they reached Clifden, they crash landed on the bog in Derrygimlagh, close the Marconi station. This piece was retrieved by noted local photographer R W Simmons, who was one of the first on the scene to take photographs for the national newspapers. By descent and gift to the current owner in the early 2000's. Three hand written descriptions thereon, one of which includes the name of R W Simons (Simmons - renowned Galway based photographer). A paper cutting on the other side reads "£50 for £1. The owner of a Treasury Pound Note carried across the Atlantic by Sir John Alcock on the 1st non-stop flight, has refused £50 for it". Measures, c.47in x 6 3/4in x 3/4in (119.5cm x 17cm x 2cm). Provenance will be provided to the successful bidder upon payment.

The building, now a museum, is officially known as the Cathedral of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos on the Moat, or Pokrovsky Cathedral. It was built from 1555 to 1561 on orders from Ivan the Terrible and commemorates the capture of Kazan and Astrakhan.
