Jean Hegesippe Vetter was a student of Charles de Steuben at the Paris School of Fine Arts. He debuted at the Salon of 1841. He presented portraits and scenes of historical genre that earned him many awards. Vetter practice a historical painting in an anecdotal record featuring French personalities of the 17th century. Vetter was considered a painter of great talent by the inspector of fine arts Frederick Buon who proposed the purchase of his paintings.. Jean Hegesippe Vetter was appointed Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1855.
