Depicted is a female semi-nude. The young woman appears with short hair that is strictly combed to the side. Her view is lowered slightly as if she was lost in thoughts while her hips are covered by a violet-colored sheet. Only her naked torso is illuminated by a gentle incident light from the front that in turn seems to reflect the colors of the background on her skin. Veno Vesely created a harmonious picture with the lovely illustration of a female half act that is characterized by the academic modeling of flesh tones. The painting is signed lower right 'Veno Veselý' and is in very good condition with insignificant signs of wear. The frame is slightly damaged at two spots. The panel measures 51.5 x 40 cm. The framed dimensions are 68 x 56.5 cm. Veno Veselý (1879-1953) Veno Vesely was born 1879 in the Czech Republic. He studied in Munich in 1904 at a private school and changed to the Munich Academy in 1907 where he studied under L. Lofftze. After his study time, Veselý settled in Pardubice in northeastern Bohemia. Several study trips led him to Tyrol, Italy and France. His works are primarily characterized by figurative subjects, such as portraits and nudes.
