The portrait of Ann-Charlotte van Lorraine, copy from the studio of Bernard Verschooten (1728-1783), oil on canvas, 72 x 85 cm

      Est: €8,000 - €10,000

The portrait of Ann-Charlotte van Lorraine, copy from the studio of Bernard Verschooten (1728-1783), oil on canvas, 72 x 85 cm The lady portrayed is Anna Charlotte of Lorraine, the sister of Karel Alexander of Lorraine and therefore the sister-in-law of Empress Maria Theresa of Austria. She was the first lady-in-waiting at the court of Prince Charles Alexander of Lorraine and later became abbess of Remiremont and later of Mons and Essen. The portrait is probably a studio copy after a portrait by the court painter of Charles of Lorraine, attributed to the painter Bernard Verschooten (1728-1783). Typical half-length portrait with an emphasis on the hand and visual expression of the face. Nice details in the representation of the stoat dress and the lacework of the sleeves.
