Contemporary gold-tooled French olive morocco gilt over paste-board, arms of Nicolas Moreau in the center, flat spine decorated with gilt leafy sprays, gilt edges; cloth folding case. Provenance: Nicolas Moreau, Sieur d'Auteuil (ca 1544-1619), Treasurer of France (binding, ownership inscriptions with his motto "A Lamy Son Coeur" ); C.N. "Ziletti notes that Verdizotti made use of Gabriello Faerno's Fabulae centum (Rome, 1563). Faerno's hundredth fable is that of the man, the boy, and the donkey, used by Verdizotti to preface his collection. The Faerno engravings are said to be after Titian, and some of Verdizotti's designs are also attributed to Titian."
