In 1910 he worked at the Vienna Hunting Exhibition under Alfred Roller, and in 1913 he designed postcards for the Wiener Werkstätte and exhibited at the Vienna Secession. Other early successes: Gundel Prize in 1916, L'Allemand Prize in 1919, Rome Prize in 1920. His clients included the Wittgenstein family, for whom Josef Hoffmann also worked. In the 1920s Velim participated in the Grinzinger artists' colony. In 1927 he received the Austrian State Prize. With the dissolution of the Grinzinger Artists' Colony and the loss of his studio, Velim failed to achieve success and became impoverished. In 1933 he had one last exhibition at the Vienna Secession, and in 1936 his sports depictions were shown at the Olympia exhibition in Berlin. Subsequently he worked as a vocational school teacher. In 1946 he became a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus, where he exhibited in 1954, shortly before his death, participating in the show "100 years of the rise of a class". In 1954 he also received the Honorary Prize of the City of Vienna. Velim began with Art Nouveau works, his focus shifted to the depiction of the working man, so that he has been spoken of as the "Egger-Lienz of the proletariat". Velim's art was appreciated by both Albin Egger-Lienz and Anton Hanak; Walter Maria Neuwirth has written about Velim's artistic path towards dematerialized painting. PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights. In the case of normal taxation (marked °), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid.     Blick in sommerliche Hochgebirgslandschaft mit Dorf, vor schneebedeckter Bergsilhouette, unter dramatisch bewölktem Gewitterhimmel, das undatierte Gemälde dürfte um 1930 entstanden sein, einer für den Künstler problematischen Zeit, infolge der Auflösung der Grinzinger Künstlerkolonie 1929 verlor er sein Atelier, alte Erfolge stellten sich nicht mehr ein und Verarmung drohte, wie auch in späteren Lebenskrisen malte Velim rastlos gegen seinen Kummer an, jedoch verrät die melancholische Landschaft viel vom Gemüts- und Seelenzustand ihres Schöpfers, an Velims Kunst schieden sich stets die Geister, während die Österreichische Tageszeitung 1913 schreibt: „Der erste Saal, der die futuristischen und farblosen Gebilde Anton Velims bringt, löst die Empfindung einer kalten Dusche aus.“ beschreibt ihn „Die Kunst“ als ein „... Künstler voll innerer Redlichkeit ...“, die Volkszeitung vom 30. Juli 1923 schreibt schließlich: „Velim ist, seit er etwa vor einem Jahrzehnt erstmals in der Secession ausgestellt hat, ein ganz anderer geworden. In der Zwischenzeit ließ er nur wenig sehen und nun steht er, mit einem Sprung, als ein Fertiger da. Mit Entwürfen zu Fresken, denen eine starke Eigenart und Monumentalität des Empfindens nicht abzusprechen ist.“ und die Wiener Zeitung ergänzt 1928: „Solch ein ganz Wilder ist Anton Velim, ein entfesselter Kokoschka.“, mit flottem, teils pastosem, expressivem Pinselduktus festgehaltene Landschaftsmalerei, Öl auf Leinwand, links unten doppelt übereinander signiert „A. Velim“, rückseitig altes Wiener Kunsthandlungsetikett, unrestaurierter Originalzustand, original mit Rückkarton in schwarzer Leiste mit Goldinlay gerahmt, Falzmaß ca. 58 x 82 cm.
