Aus der Serie "Die Geschichte des Tobias nach Moyses van Uyttenbroeck.", 4. Bl. (von 4 Bll.). Etching on paper. Spot mounted on backing and exposed in passepartout. - Partially with brown spots. At all a little bit age-marked. Inscribed on the verso and on the passepartout by another hand in graphite. *

Meijer for confirming the authenticity of this work on the basis of a photograph. --------------- VELDE, JAN JANSZ. VAN DE III (Haarlem 1620 -1662 Amsterdam) Stillleben mit einem Glas à la façon de Venise, einer aufgeschnittenen Zitrone, einer Orange, Walnüssen und einem Messer auf einem Tisch. 1657. Öl auf Holz. Unten links signiert und datiert: JJ. van de Velde fecit, Anno1657. 41,2 x 31,2 cm. Provenienz: Europäische Privatsammlung. Dieses kürzlich in einer europäischen Privatsammlung entdeckte Stillleben mit einem venezianischen Glas, einer aufgeschnittenen Zitrone mit gelöster Schale, die sich über die vordere Bildkante spiralförmig windet, einer Orange, einer geöffneten Walnuss und einem Messer auf einer rotbraungedeckten Tischfläche stellt ein charakteristisches Beispiel aus dem Spätwerk des Haarlemer Stilllebenmalers Jan Jansz. van der Velde III. dar, das 1657 datiert ist. Vermutlich bei seinem Vater Jan van der Velde II. (1593-1641) gelernt, zeigt seine Malerei deutlich den Einfluss von Willem Claesz. Heda (siehe Los 3022). Die monochrome Farbigkeit, die für die Haarlemer Stilllebenmalerei so typisch ist, wird auch bei dem hier angebotenen Stillleben eingesetzt. Mit gezielten Lichtreflexen und einer Hell- und Dunkelmodellierung des einfallenden Lichtes wird die Komposition spannungsvoll inszeniert. Dr. Fred G. Meijer, dem wir für die Bestätigung der Eigenhändigkeit des Gemäldes nach Prüfung von Fotografien danken, vergleicht die Komposition mit dem Stillleben aus demselben Jahr im Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam (Inv.-Nr. 2532). Eine sehr ähnliche Komposition greift Van der Velde bereits zwei Jahre zuvor, 1655, auf, die sich heute in den Königlichen Museen der Schönen Künste in Brüssel befindet. Nur das venezianische Glas ist etwas schmaler ausgeführt, eine weitere Walnuss wurde ergänzt und die Oberfläche der Orange ist anders strukturiert. Gesicherte Werke des Künstlers sind bislang aus dem Zeitraum von 1639 bis 1662 bekannt (Willigen, Adriaan van der/ Meijer, Fred G.: A Dictionary of Dutch and Flemish Still – Life Painters Working in Oils, 1525-1725, Leiden 2003, S. 202).
