    Polygnotos G. Vagis, Greek, 1894-1965, Bronze Standing Figure of Heracles strangling a snake as a boy, signed and dated 1925 and plumbed for a fountain. The water would emerge from the cup held aloft. NOTE: There is a museum in Putamia on the Greek Island of Thasos dedicated to the work of Polygnotos Vagis. Vagis work is also in the Collections of Whitney & Brooklyn Museums. Herakles had various encounters with snakes during his lifetime. As a baby he strangled snakes in his crib sent by a vengeful Hera to kill him. {KIPO6503} (WT )
