Paul Unbereit, attr, Am Bauernhof A few chickens in the backyard of a somewhat run-down farm, with scattered tools, wooden slats and hay, the open shed to the barn allows a small view into the barn, the summer sun casts its shadows on the facade, according to the consignor a work by Paul Unbereit, depicting a farm near Wachau in Austria, this was the focus of the artist's work, there are numerous known depictions of backyards in the Wachau region that are similar in motif, style and format, oil on canvas on stretcher, 1st quarter 20th cent. Quarter 20th cent, stamp fragment on the reverse "Aus der Gemälde[...] K.K. Akademie d. bild. K. d. bild. It depicts a cottage courtyard in the lower-Austrian Wachau region on a sunny summer afternoon. The work features an unusually fine painterly execution. Besides the house and chickens, the flora is presented with a great love for detail. The diffused incidence of light underlines the idyllic atmosphere. The oil painting by Paul Unbereit is in good condition. In the lower right corner there is a colour flake with a diameter of approximately 8 mm. Along the upper right edge there are slight framing marks. The slender wooden frame shows signs of age and use. Framed, the work measures 31.6 x 35.9 cm, the cardboard measures 32 x 28 cm. The work is signed lower right 'P.Unbereit'. Paul Unbereit (1884-1937) Born in Berlin in 1884, the artist Paul Unbereit was known as a landscapist and veduta painter. From 1900 onwards he lived in Vienna and liked to visit the Wachau region, where he found the inspiration for his idyllic sceneries. His favoured technique was oil painting.
