        Est: $200 - $400

WALDEMAR UHLMANN (German 1840-1896) A BRONZE PORTRAIT BUST, "The Princess of Wales Alexandra," LATE 19TH CENTURY, realistically cast with her head turned dexter and wearing an upswept hairstyle centering her famous kokoshnik tiara, over pearl strands suspending baroque pear form pearl pendants and one shoulder classically draped above an ostrich feather-trimmed décolleté, verso signed "O. W. Uhlmann," incised "A.G. Schaffer & Walcker," incorporating a circular socle. Height: 17 3/4" Width: 11 1/8" Depth: 6 1/2" Note: Alexandra, Princess of Wales was presented this kokoshnik tiara in 1888 on the occasion of her 25th wedding anniversary to Albert Edward Prince of Wales, by The Ladies of Society (365 peeresses of the United Kingdom). Originally designed by Garrard and influenced by the diamond kokoshnik tiara worn by her sister the Dowager Empress of Russia Maria Feodorovna (a.k.a. Minnie). Unfortunately, Minnie's tiara was not part of the jewels she escaped with during the revolution so its location is unknown. The Queen Alexandra tiara survives to this day and apparently is one of Queen Elizabeth II favorite tiaras.Provenance: Lifelong Collection of Clocks and Antiques, Navasota, Texas.
