      Heavy hollow cast bronze, brown patina. Bust of Frederick the Great with tricorn hat and ponytail. Signed "v. Uechtritz" on the side, "Lauchhammer Bildguss" foundry stamp and number "24" on the reverse. Signs of use and age. Height 37 cm, weight ca. 15 kg. Realistic portrayal of the king in his later years, adequately reflecting his royal dignity. Cuno von Uechtritz-Steinkirch, Berlin-based sculptor since 1887, professor since 1899, created the Moltke monument in Breslau, the statue of Elector Georg Wilhelm in the Siegesallee/Berlin, and the Bismarck monument in Grimmen.       Born in Breslau, the sculptor Cuno von Uechtritz-Steinkirch (1856 - 1908) began his artistic training in Dresden under Carl Friedrich Echtermeier following a trip to Italy. He then lived for a time in Paris and Vienna before settling in Berlin in 1887. His design for the allegorical group "The Crown as a Haven of Peace" attracted the attention of the Emperor in 1897, who commissioned the monument in marble. The artist's famous depiction of Frederick II on horseback was produced in various sizes. The example shown here is an impressive indoor monument.

      Cuno von Uechtritz-Steinkirch (1856-1908), German sculptor, pupil of Carl Echtermayer and Ernst Hähnel in Dresden and Victor Tilgner in Berlin. Since 1899 professor at the academy, he belonged to the most important sculptors of monuments in the capital. His main works include the Moltke monument in Wroclaw, the statue of Elector Georg Wilhelm in Siegesallee in Berlin and the Gänseliesel fountain in Berlin-Wilmersdorf. BERLINER / KUNST AUSSTELLUNG.’ Rare, idealized representation of a young woman with hair bands and an antique robe, carrying two black amphorae On small arched plinth, mounted on a large circular, profiled base of dark green and black veined marble Height, without base: 31.5 cm Very good condition Classical models inspired the Berlin sculptor Cuno von Uechtritz-Steinkirch to create this extremely rare bronze works. The artist, who was very popular with the German imperial house, enjoyed great success and created several monuments in the urban environment Cuno von Uechtritz-Steinkirch created the present bronze figure around the turn of the century. It depicts is an idealized representation of a young woman in classical robe, her left breast exposed. In each hand she carries an amphora. The oeuvre of the German sculptor was strongly influenced by the Dresden School and his teacher Ernst Hähnel, who was an advocate of the ideal sculpture and created many figures inspired from classical antiquity himself. The figure is signed on the side of the plinth ‘Cuno von Uechtritz’ and inscribed ‘GR. BERLINER / KUNST AUSSTELLUNG.’ It is in very good condition with light signs of age such as minor wear to the patina. The height without base is 31.5 cm, measuring 46.5 cm including the base. Cuno von Uechtritz-Steinkirch (1856-1908) At the age of 21, Cuno von Uechtritz-Steinkirch decided to pursue a career as an artist. With one of his statuettes he had already impressed Wilhelm I. He started his education in the studio of the sculptor Carl Friedrich Echtermeier and later with Ernst Hähnel. The idealistic tendencies of the Dresden School should later influence von Uechtritz-Steinkirch’s work substantially. He concluded his studies at the Vienna Academy under Victor Tilgner and from 1887 onwards worked in Berlin. He soon received commissions from the Emperor, among others for a monument in Berlin’s Siegesallee. One of his first polychrome works was purchased by the National Gallery Berlin in 1889. The artist created primarily monumental works for the public sphere, but also conceived smaller, mostly figurative sculptures.       Sign. "v. Üechtritz", um 1890 - Bronze gegossen, Stand mit Keramik aufgefüllt. H. 36,5 cm. (14353041) - Cuno von Uechtritz-Steinkirch (geb. 3. Juli 1856 in Breslau, gest. 29. Juli 1908 in Berlin) stammte aus der Dresdner Bildhauerschule und machte sich mit einer Denkmalgruppe für die Berliner Siegesallee und mit dekorativen Brunnenanlagen einen Namen. Von Uechtritz-Steinkirch wurde von Kaiser Wilhelm II. zum königlichen Professor ernannt. -
