      Alfred Jackson Tyler (African American; 1933 - 2011) Outside of the Art Institute of Chicago Graphite on paper c. 1950. Signed LR. "My art is a statement of eclectic form of color. My medias are pen and ink, pastels, markers, serigraphs and oils. I have many subject matters, but my main subject matter is the glorification of the African- American people." A visual artist for more than 60 years, Tyler graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1956, and later pursued graduate studies in painting and the fresco technique of mural painting at La Escuela Nacional De Artes Plasticas in Mexico City , Mexico . Throughout his career, he developed wide-ranging artistic talents, including operating a gallery and producing art as a 30-year employee of the City of Evanston, IL. Tyler's art is included in important private and public collections, including the Dusable Museum of African American History, Chicago, Il.; D.C. General Hospital, Washington, D.C.; Illinois State Museum, Springfield, Illinois; McCormick Place Convention Complex, Chicago; Chicago Public Library, Rogers Park branch; The Louis Cunningham Collection, Southfield, Mi.; The Dr. Robert Derden Collection of Contemporary Art, Chicago, Il.; The Patric McCoy Collection, Chicago, Il.; The Pirfirco Williams Collection, Chicago, Il.; Soft Sheen Company, Johnson Publishing, Englewood High School, DuSabe High School, Robert Lawrence Academy of Math and Science, and the Chicago History Museum, all in Chicago, Il. His work is also included in the City of Evanston 's Civic Center Collection, Evanston , Il .
