(9 1/2 in. x 8 1/4 in. (sight)) Provenance By descent in family of the sitter. Footnote: Note An importer of rum and coffee, John Q. Aymar was a very successful New York merchant. A portrait, The Family of John Q. Aymar shown in the parlor of their Greenwich Street home, also attributed to George W. Twibill, Jr., is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art (Access no. 2008.573). Condition report: 15 1/2 in. x 14 1/2 in. (frame) green fluorescence throughout-- possible retouching and/or later varnish; one small area of loss/gilding to upper center edge; frame is period and has signs of age- crackling and some minor areas of loss.
