            CHARLES TURZAK (1899-1986) The Workers. Wood engraving. 153x115 mm; 6x4 1/2 inches, full margins. Signed, titled and numbered 24/50 in pencil, lower margin. Circa 1935. A very good, evenly-printed impression. Turzak attended the Art Institute of Chicago while working as a freelancer. He excelled in creating woodcut prints and taught the medium at the Academy of Fine Arts. After returning from his studies in Europe, Turzak was employed by the WPA Federal Arts Project in Chicago, where his prints depicted the city's preserverence and strength in the face of hardship and loss of faith.
