    Turner, Harriet French (1886-1967) Oil on masonite "Sunset O're Bellview Church". Scene with country church, cemetery and trees in silhouette against luminous sky. The artist, a native of Giles County, Virginia, was a respected folk painter. Attached verso: a label from Roanoke Fine Arts Center / 1960, Roanoke Times newspaper article, a 1962 letter to the consignors from Colonial Williamsburg, and two 20th Century color photographs related to the church. 21 1/2" x 19 1/2" s.s., in a wormy chestnut frame with linen liner to 29" x 26 1/2". This painting was purchased by the consignor from Mrs. Turner during the Colonial Williamsburg Exhibition in 1962. For many years it was the opening scene for a film used to introduce visitors to the Abbey Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Center.

Signed lower right "Harriet French Turner". Label verso "Spring in the Blue Ridge / painted 1963 by / Harriet French Turner / Roanoke, Virginia". Mrs. Turner, a native of Giles County, painted extensive mountain scenes in Southwestern, Virginia. 17 1/2" x 23 1/2" s.s., framed to 20 3/4" x 26 3/4".
