Original vintage cruise travel poster issued by Cunard line featuring a painting by the British artist Charles E. Turner (1883-1965) depicting the RMS Queen Mary ocean liner traversing choppy waters with a yellow cloudy sky in the background. The British shipping company Cunard White Star Line was founded in 1934 by Cunard (founded 1840) and White Star Line (1845-1934) providing passenger and shipping transportation services on the transatlantic route until 1949 when Cunard bought out White Star. The historic Queen Mary is now a hotel and museum ship permanently moored at Long Beach in Los Angeles California. Horizontal. Good condition, creasing, staining, foxing, small tears. Country of issue: UK, designer: Charles E. Turner, size (cm): 50x75, year of printing: 1930s.

CHARLES E. TURNER (1883-1965) CUNARD TO CANADA. Circa 1948. 39 1/4x24 1/2 inches, 99 1/2x62 1/4 cm. Condition B+: replaced losses in top corners; overpainting in margins. The Franconia, Scythia, Samaria and Ascania, all one-funnel liners, were used on the England - Canada routes in the years following the Second World War. Turner designed several posters for the shipping company over the decades and designed a series of propaganda posters during WWII. Turner served in the RAF during the first world war, and some of his earliest posters for the London Underground reflect his aeronautic experience. Weallans p. 177.

Condition A / A-: sharp crease and small errant marks in right image. Paper. Framed. Turner designed a number of posters for Cunard over the decades, as well as a series of propaganda posters during WWII. Turner served in the RAF during the First World War, and some of his earliest posters for the London Underground reflect his aeronautic experience. The Britannic was built for the White Star Line in 1930. The company merged with Cunard in 1934, becoming the Cunard White Star Line, and then in 1950 the name shortened to Cunard. The Britannic was one of only two vessels that survived the initial merger, but she continued to fly the flags of both companies.

CHARLES E. TURNER (BRITISH, 1883-1965) A panoramic view of Southampton Water, with the Queen Mary under tow Signed CE Turner (lower left) and inscribed 'Southampton' (lower right) 19¾ x 29½in. (50 x 75cm.) This wonderful and evocative view depicts the Queen Mary in Southampton Water with a Union Castle liner in the distance, MTBs, Sunderland flying boats and cars of the 1940s. C.E. Turner was well known for his work in advertising and this picture was probably an original advert for Dunlop tyres and represents a particularly attractive example of this genre. This painting is oil on canvas.
