    A 19th century portrait miniature of a young gentleman signed JT (possibly John Turmeau, Liverpool 1777-1846), oval watercolour on ivory, 3in. high, in a rosewood box frame with inner gilded border and slip. * Condition: The ivory has warped to the left side but shows no splits or cracks. Scratch to paint to left side of hair and ear beneath, two other scratches to blue background to right of head and some small nicks to paint to hair. Frame good.

    John Turmeau (1777-1846) - A Gentleman, with curly light brown hair, in yellow waistcoat and dark blue coat before sky; a gentleman, with short wavy hair in yellow waistcoat and black coat, two, one signed on the paper backing Jon Turmeau pinxt and dated 1820, ivory, oval, 8 x 6.5cm, one with hair to the reverse, gold frames; an early 19th c English School miniature of a gentleman, gold frame (3) John Turmeau studied at the Royal Academy schools and later exhibited from various London addresses. He left for Liverpool around 1799 where he was to spend the rest of his life. In 1810 he was one of the founder members of the Liverpool Academy and its President from 1812-1814. He continued to exhibit there until 1842. £500-700
