In very good condition except for a small tear on the right, light signs of foxing and creasing. With dry stamp of the Società delle Belle Art in Florence.

Torino 1845 - 1904 Campo Santa Maria Formosa a Venezia Firmato C Turletti in basso a destra Olio su tavola, cm 29X19,5 Provenienza: Torino, collezione privata Torino, Galleria Fogliato Esposizioni: 'Pittori dell'Ottocento: Raccolta privata. Catalogo n. 13', opera n. 109, Galleria Fogliato, Torino 1958 L'opera in oggetto, racchiusa in una preziosa cornice d'epoca finemente intagliata e dorata, è probabilmente lo studio per il dipinto con lo stesso titolo Piazza Maria Formosa (Venezia) presentata nel 1880 alla XXXIX Promotrice delle Belle arti di Torino, e nello stesso anno all'Esposizione Nazionale di Belle Arti sempre nella sua città. Turletti frequentò l'Accademia Albertina di Torino, dove fu allievo di Gamba e di Gastaldi perfezionando poi gli studi a Firenze con Bignami. Esordì come incisore nel 1869 raggiungendo poi una vasta fama per la diffusione dei suoi lavori, spesso riproducenti opere di artisti contemporanei. In pittura trovò una fortunata formula stilistica nelle scene di genere, talora interpretate con vena ironica e ricercate da un vasto mercato come il dipinto 'Memento!' esposto a Torino nel 1872- altre opere significative sono 'Martiri della grammatica', esposto a Torino nel 1873 e 'La questua delusa', esposto a Milano nel 1888.

La splendida immagine, che occupa quasi tutto il fronte del titolo, è opera di Celestino Turletti (1845-1904), pittore e illustratore piemontese. Timbro a secco nel quadrante superiore sinistro con stemma sabaudo e della città piemontese. I fondi necessari per realizzare l'esposizione generale vennero raccolti - oltre che con contributi del Governo, del Municipio di Torino e della Provincia - mediante la sottoscrizione di azioni da 100 Lire rimborsabili al termine della manifestazione, qualora il bilancio fosse risultato in attivo, nonché con oblazioni a fondo perduto, senza limite d'importo. Le azioni e le oblazioni davano diritto al titolare all'ingresso gratuito all'esposizione. Difficilmente reperibile in tale ottimo stato di conservazione.
