  • Rafael TUFINO: Abstract / Cubist Face - Serigraph
    May. 22, 2021

Rafael TUFINO: Abstract / Cubist Face - Serigraph

    Est: $600 - $800

An original signed serigraph print by highly regarded artist Rafael Tufino (October 30, 1922 – March 13, 2008), a Brooklyn born Puerto Rican artist and cultural icon who worked in a variety of mediums but is best known for his bold and powerful poster art. His work is in the collection of many museums including the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Tufino was considered by many in Puerto Rico as ‘The Painter of the People’ because of his many accomplishments globally as an artist and nationally, especially his involvement with ‘Generación de los Cincuentas’, a group of artists who strove to create a new artistic aesthetic for their nation. This particular print is done in Tufino’s more abstracted style with a modernist profile with cubist influences. The face is of a woman with very large eyes, almost Egyptian in style with a small straight nose and beak like mouth. She appears against a black back ground with textural and geometric elements around her. A small male figure stands out of the print and appears to be looking up at this large profile as she looks down on him. The piece is signed in pencil above him. [Image: 21 1/2" H x 13 1/4" W; Frame: 34" H x 26" W]. In good condition; no stains or discolorations. colors vivid.
