Born in Rough Rock, Arizona, Andy Tsinnajinnie was an Indian artist and illustrator who maintained a studio in Scottsdale, Arizona. He was a member of the Navajo Salt River Bend Indian tribe, and the translation of his last name, which has been spelled in several ways, is "Little Grey." He studied art at the Fort Apache School in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and graduated in 1936. He painted large murals for the WPA in Arizona and New Mexico including ones for Indian Schools. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force in the South Pacific, and after that was a full-time artist in Scottsdale. This piece includes the original purchase receipt from Desert House Crafts, Tucson, Arizona for $40USD. Dimensions are: image - 15“ tall X 19“ wide, overall - 21 1/2“ tall X 25 1/4“ wide. All measurements are approximate. Artist Biography: Andrew 'Andy' Tsinajinnie’s (Navajo, 1918-2000), art reflects a deep reverence for Navajo ceremonies and daily life. He was born on the reservation in Rough Rock near Chinle, Arizona in 1916. He was one of the first pupils to receive art instruction at "The Studio", founded by Dorothy Dunn at the Santa Fe Indian School. Following graduation, he worked as an illustrator for the Indian Service. He received PWAP and WPA grants for large murals in Arizona and New Mexico. In 1940 he joined Army Air Force and upon returning from overseas duty opened his studio in Scottsdale, Arizona. Tsinnanjinnie's work has been featured in books and publications which include "Arizona Highways" and "Navajo History, Volume I". Designated an Arizona Living Treasure,
