        Artist: Vaughan Trowbridge (1869-1945). Title/Description: Seaside landscape . Signature: One signed lower left, and inscribed "Paris/1900". Date Created: 1900. Medium/Ground: Etchings. Size: 8 3/4in x 14 3/4in. Condition: The signed version is toned, with dampstaining at the corner, edge tears and creases. The unsigned version with considerable foxing, but mostly at margins; edge tears and creases. From the Family of Xavier Martinez (1869-1943), Elsie Whitaker Martinez (1890-1984), and Micaela Martinez DuCasse (1913-1989).

View of the Alhambra, image size 12 ¾ inches x 9 1/8 inches, with margins; signed, titled and numbered in pencil “V. Trowbridge—Alhambra—43/65” in lower margin. Also signed with “VT” monogram, dated “1915” and titled “Alhambra” in the plate, lower left. Framed under glass in gilt wood, 21 ¾ inches x 16 ¾ inches overall. 2. City View of Amalfi with Waterfall, image size 14 ¾ inches x 7 ½ inches, with margins; signed, titled and numbered in pencil “V. Trowbridge—Amalfi—32/65” in lower margin. Also signed with “VT” monogram, dated “1913” and titled “Amalfi” in the plate, lower left. Framed under glass in gilt wood, 21 ¾ inches x 16 ¾ inches overall. Condition: Both very good overall; slight age-toning to the paper of No. 2 and some spotting in the lower margin that does not affect the image. Neither examined out of the frame.

Frame size, 28 1/2 x 10 inches. Matted and framed.         Vaughan Trowbridge (1869-1945) Etching and Aquatint, Sailboats c. 1905. Signed in pencil by the artist and numbered 20 of 30. Etcher, painter, and illustrator, Vaughan Trowbridge was born in Queens, New York, in 1869. He graduated from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn with a degree in banking in 1889 and then went on to work as a clerk for the Susquehanna Railroad. Nine years later he left the work-a-day world behind and went to study art in Paris. He studied with Jean Paul Laurens and Benjamin Constant. He remained a resident of Paris for the rest of his life and was active through the 1920s. PROVENANCE: The estate of a Litchfield Connecticut Antique and Fine Art Dealer.         DESCRIPTION: Vaughan Trowbridge (American, 1869-1945). Etching. "Almalfi". Numbered "17/40" in the lower left corner. Signed and titled in the lower right hand corner "V. Trowbridge Almalfi 1913". Under a fabric matting in a gold colored wooden frame. Vaughan Trowbridge was born in Astoria, Queens, New York, in 1869. He attended the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, graduated with a degree in banking in 1889, and then worked as a clerk for the Susquehanna Railroad. Nine years later, he left to study art in Paris, under the tutelage of Jean Paul Laurens and Benjamin Constant. He remained active through the 1920s. MEASUREMENTS: 14" x 10-1/4". Overall with frame 19" x 15". CONDITION: Toning to paper, particularly near the matting. Light wear to frame. Not examined out of frame.
