Ron Tribe was born in Surrey, England (1927), and dropped a successful career to attend the Vancouver School of Arts and then UBC in the 1970s. He turned to pottery full time in North Vancouver and teaching at Capilano College. Through the 1980s he exhibited at juried shows in Canada and internationally. An exhibition of his sculptural works was held in 2000. He passed away in 2009. Ron Tribe's decorative pottery and sculptural works do not come up often. This vase is one of those sculptural rarities. Chopped on the base.

    RON TRIBE (1927 - 2009) SCULPTURAL TEAPOT clay, 10.75" x 8" x 1.75" -- 27.3 x 20.3 x 4.4 cm., unsigned Provenance: Purchased directly from the artist Note: RON TRIBE (1927 - 2009) Born in Surrey, England in 1927, Ron Tribe immigrated to Canada in his youth, and worked for a number of years in the retail business. He eventually pursued the arts and studied different media at the Vancouver School of Art, Capilano College and the University of British Columbia, and eventually opened his own pottery studio. Tribe also taught at various schools, including Capilano College. Tribe 's work is included in international collections, including in Japan, the United States, Britain, and Canada. In 1984, he was awarded an honorary degree for his contribution to a show of international ceramists. That same year, his work was also shown at the International Academy of Ceramics in Seattle. Tribe exhibited at Retrospect Ceramics 80, the 25th Anniversary of the Potters Guild of B.C., an invitational exhibition featuring 120 national and international ceramic artists who received honors locally or at the national and international level, as well as those who contributed to the growth and development of ceramics in British Columbia over the previous 25 years. Tribe passed away in 2009.
