Franz Trenk (1899-1960), Painting, Zuckerhütl, Austria, 1937

    Est: €1,600 - €2,000

Oil on canvas; laid down on cardboard Austria, 1937 Franz Trenk (1899-1960) – Austrian painter, watercolorist and art teacher Signed and dated lower right ‘F. Trenk 1937.’ Dimensions: 44 x 50 cm Good condition View of the Zuckerhütl mountain, the highest mountain in the Stubai Alps in Tyrol; comparable paintings by the artist fetch up to €2,700 at international auctions Object is regular taxed. 19% VAT is added to the purchase price for deliveries within the EU. The present work was painted by a famous artist from Graz called Franz Trenk. It depicts a view of the ‘Zuckerhütl’, the highest mountain in the Stubai Alps in Tyrol. The motif oscillates between the poles of figuration and abstraction and was painted with impasto colors. In this way the painting is a beautiful example of the early works of the artist, when he mainly focused on landscapes and preferred the use of oil. The painting is signed and dated lower right ‘F. Trenk 1937.’. The canvas is laid down on cardboard. It is in good condition; inspection under UV light only reveals a few small areas of retouching. The work measures 44 x 50 cm. Franz Trenk (1899-1960) Franz Trenk received his artistic training at the ‘Landeskunstschule’ at Graz, his city of birth. This was followed by further studies at the Academy of Arts in Vienna. His early works are mainly focused on landscape depictions, which he usually painted with oil. During World War II Trenk was active as a war artist and primarily focused on the technique of watercolor. In the 1950s he was deeply interested in motifs related to emerging industries and the rebuilding of the country. Franz Trenk was one of the founders of the artist’s association in Graz, whose vice president he finally was. (cbo) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
