Eugenie Torgerson Art for Sale at Auction

Eugenie Torgerson makes mixed media work and book objects in her studio in southwest rural Michigan. She combines pastel drawings, digital assemblages, maps, and text, using traditional studio materials and contemporary digital scanners, films, and printers.

“For me, art is about ideas made manifest through materials and the work of the hand. For the most part, my images are not of a specific site but are generalized and universal representations of the weight of the land, the energy of the air, and the allure of the horizon. I am interested in migrations – what makes people decide to leave, what causes them to stay, how they endure with grace. I am drawn by beauty."

“Eugenie Torgerson’s work seems to me so very American – with a sense of movement from one place to another, re-inventing one’s self, and fearlessly facing a new place – which is the story of all our families if gone back far enough. It is not an uncommon theme in American arts and letters but rarely done with such beauty.”

“The viewer is introduced to Torgerson’s golden hues and remarkable use of material layering. On the Verge of Everything has eight layers of fascinating and varied texture underneath a subtle expanse of sky and earth. Her rich pastels collide at a lowered horizon, highlighting majestic clouds without sacrificing a solid foundation.”
