    Dmitry Aleksandrovich Toporkov, Russian 1885-1937- Artist and his Model, circa 1910; oil on canvas, signed upper left; inscribed in Cyrillic on the reverse, 142x78cm (unframed) Provenance: Aacquired from the collection of art historian Valentina Kuriltseva in 1993 by the present owner. Note: A pre-revolutionary generation artist,Toporkov, worked as a painter and a graphic artist. He studied at the Moscow College of Arts, Sculpture and Architecture, was the pupil and successor of A. Arkhipov and K. Korovin. From 1922, he was a member of the 'Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia', and a participant of the exhibitions of the Association. Works can be found in the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow. The work is on a stretcher and has no frame. There is some paint loss to the edges of the canvas. There are also some cracks to the paint particularly on the right hand side. Some minor paint loss in areas but this could be the artist's aesthetic. Overall the piece is in good condition.
