    Charles H. Toplis,  British 1780-1851-  Canonbury Tower; and Landscape near Caernarfon, North Wales;   each pencil, watercolour and bodycolour on paper, each 32.2 x 44 cm., two (2)  Provenance:  with the German-born British art historian Alfred Scharf (1900-1965).; and thence by descent.  Note:  Canonbury Tower is a Tudor tower in Canonbury, and is the oldest building in Islington, North London. It is the most substantial remaining part of what used to be Canonbury House, erected for the Canons of St Bartholomew's Priory between 1509 and 1532. The tower has been occupied by many historical figures, including Sir Francis Bacon, Thomas Cromwell and Oliver Goldsmith.
