        Kojin Toneyama (Japanese, 1921-1994). An abstract color lithograph on paper. Pencil signed and dated lower right. The artwork features bold geometric shapes, with a central configuration of overlapping red and black rectangles surrounding a smaller black square, all set against a cream background. Inscribed with the edition number 74/100 in the lower left. Presented under glass in a metal frame. Sight size 33.5" x 24.5". Retains gallery label. Provenance: Barbara Gillman (1937-2023), an influential American art gallerist. Dimensions: 34.25 X 25.25 X .75 in. Condition: Fair overall condition having mild surface wear, moderate paper toning, foxing and discoloration to pigment and evidence of water staining. Frame having mild storage wear to edges and corners. The gallery has not examined it out of the frame. Estate fresh to the market. Presentó su obra en galerías y museos como The National Museum of Modern Art en Kioto, su trabajo ha sido subastado en Sotheby's. Toneyama fue un artista multidisciplinario, realizó acuarela, litografía y collage. Dedicó parte de su producción a representar las danzas ancestrales de Shishi Odori y Onikenbai, son coloridas y geométricas litografías donde figuran los demonios, danzantes con máscaras en actitud festiva o ceremonial. Estas se exhibieron en su atelier ubicado en Kitakami, lugar que se convirtió en memorial y museo después de su muerte y donde actualmente se presentan performances y exhibiciones.         KOJIN TONEYAMA Geometrismo Firmado y fechado 1969 Acrílico sobre lino Con certificado de autenticidad de Galería de Arte Misrachi. Kojin Toneyama (1921 - 1994) cuenta con un museo, el Toneyama Memorial Museum en Kitakami, Japón. Toneyama llegó a México en 1950. Jorge Toribio escribe al respecto: Octavio Paz y Hayashiya entrevistaron a mi otro camarada, el pintor Toneyama. En uno de mis últimos viajes a Japón, me alojé en la casa de Toneyama. La viuda me pasó al estudio, un lugar solitario, ahí me encontré un poema dedicado a él: "Ver es hacer, oír es decir", firmado por Octavio Paz. Me gustó mucho. En esas dos frases está implícito el arte de la poesía, de la pintura y del ser. En este momento en que Octavio está en el "candelero", por decirlo así, la gente va a poder aquilatar mejor la obra de mi amigo Toneyama". Y continúa diciendo: "Toneyama y yo hicimos una colección grande de Taku-Hon. (Calcas de los relieves prehispánicos). Cuando terminamos de hacer las calcas, se presentaron en el Museo de Arte Moderno de Japón con gran éxito, después en el Museo de Arte Moderno de México". 131 x 162 cm.
