Shigeki Tomura Art for Sale at Auction

b. 1951 -

Shigeki Tomura was born in 1951 in Hachinohe (Aomori Prefecture). He participated in the Kokuga Association's exhibitions from 1973 to 1975, and since 1984 has mostly focused on printmaking. In 1985, he was awarded the Art Prize of Iwate Prefecture (which also garnered him an exhibition at the Tetsugoro Yorozu Memorial Museum), and in 1987 he received the Kitai no Shinjin Newcomer Award in the print section. In 1989 and 1991, respectively, Tomura won at Small Graphic Forms in Lodz (Poland). The Grand Prix at the 2nd Bratislava International Ex Libris Triennial followed in 1998. Tomura now lives in Morioka and continues to exhibit internationally, namely in Russia, the UK, Germany, or the United States. With a thematic emphasis on scenes of nature, Tomura's approach centers on the passing of time and aspects of the unseen that emerge beyond a mere representation of so-called reality. His works are highly detailed and diligently executed.
