      Watercolor and gouache on paper, 17 3/4 x 24 1/2 inches, sight. Signed "door D.A. Teupken, te Amsterdam" l.l. Frame 25 x 32 1/4 inches. Depicted in broadside view, the brig Clarissa Ann was built in 1824 by Levi Houghton of Bath, Maine and named after the shipbuilder's daughter. The 276-ton vessel was primarily used for transatlantic trade and condemned in Havana, Cuba in 1840.

Barque 'Oosterling' in full sail cruising the Straits of Dover, two other vessels and the chalk cliffs of Dover in the background. 1855. 485 x 670 mm. Framed, glazed and under passepartout. Signed and dated in the lower left corner. So-called 'kapiteinsprent' of the barque 'Oosterling' built in 1854 by order of the Nederlandsche Handel Maatschappij. In 1855 this ship, with a capacity of 363 tons, was under the command of captain F.J. Nahmens - his 'number flag' streams in top of the mast - and carried goods of all sorts to and from the East Indies. Uninspected out of frame. - Scheen II, 452-3. Estimated Price: € 2000

      The British brig Rosella in two positions off the Low Countries signed, inscribed and dated 'poor D A Teupken de Amsterdam 1835' (lower right) pencil, pen and grey ink and watercolour 19 x 271/2 in. (48.3 x 69.8 cm.) NOTES The 213-ton brig Rosella was built at Newcastle in 1819 and owned by successive Newcastle or Shields owners who traded her out of the Tyne to the Baltic until the early 1840s when she disappears from record.
