    Alexander Grigorievich Tyshler or Tishler, Ukrainian, Russian, Soviet era, 1898 to 1980, ink painting on paper, a sketch depicting a portrait of a woman with a figural composition on a top of a head, 1959. Signed in Cyrillic and dated lower right. Alexander Grigoryevich Tyshler was a Russian modernist painter, in particular, notable as a stage designer. In Moscow, Tyshler got close to futurist circles. He worked in painting and graphics, in particular, as a book illustrator. In this period, he was mostly interested in abstract compositions showing details of some mechanical equipment. On the other hand, the graphics was mainly figurative and, in particular, showed some themes related to the Civil War, as well as landscapes of Crimea. One of a kind artwork.

    Alexander Gregorievich Tishler: Russian-Soviet Union Painter, Watercolorist and Costume Designer "Bearing Candles". (1898-1980) Alexander Grigorievich Tishler, celebrated and much admired painter active and lived in the Russian Federation. Tishler also created fanciful and elaborate costumes and designs for theater. Offered is one of his more abstract watercolor and ink on paper from evidently from 1963. Very typical of his work especially the woman wearing extraordinary headwear this compelling piece measures 14 x 10" and is presented in a mat board 18 1/2 x 13 1/2". Exceptionally bold colors and in very fine condition. We only note a small fleck/scuff on the last letter of his name printed in Cyrillic and a few very tiny flecks within the dark areas of the woman's hair. A stunning, Russian modernist piece. Estimated Value $1,200-UP.
