Franz Tippel (born December 5, 1923 in Fugau; † June 2, 2010 in Regenstauf) was a German painter and graphic artist.

Tippel did an apprenticeship as a decorative painter from 1938 to 1941. From 1941 to 1946 he was in military service and as a prisoner of war. From 1947 to 1949 he studied with Carl Rade (1878–1954) at the Hochschule für Werkkunst in Dresden and from 1949 to 1952 painting with Rudolf Bergander, Fritz Dähn and Carl Rade at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden.

Then he was there until 1954 as an aspirant and assistant and from 1956 to 1962 lecturer at the workers and farmers faculty of the university. After that he was temporarily self-employed, before he became a lecturer for wall painting in the restoration department of the university from 1964 until retirement. His students included Lutz Gode (* 1940), Arno Rink and Rainer Zille. From 1953 to 1988, with the exception of 1977/1978, Tippel was represented at all German art exhibitions and art exhibitions of the GDR in Dresden.
