Prestel 2009, Guerra. Lauréat du Prix Henri Cartier-Bresson 2017, artiste sud-africain né en 1962. Au cours de ces dernières années, il a entrepris de longues déambulations, parcourant des villes telles que Johannesburg, Durban, Maputo, Beira, Harare, Nairobi, Kampala, Addis-Abeba, Luanda, Libreville, Accra, Abidjan, Dakar et Dar es Salaam. Les rues, rebaptisées et renommées, témoignent silencieusement des flux et reflux des changements politiques, économiques et sociaux. Elles sont devenues une sorte de "musée" illustrant les deux révolutions majeures que ces pays ont connues au cours des dernières décennies : la transition des régimes coloniaux aux régimes postcoloniaux, avec des influences allant des pratiques socialistes au nationalisme africain, puis à des États capitalistes. Guy Tillim a été récompensé par de nombreux prix, dont le Higashikawa Overseas Photographer Award en 2003, le Daimler-Chrysler Award for South African Photography en 2004, et le prix Leica Oskar Barnack en 2005. En 2015, il a été lauréat des résidences photographiques du musée du quai Branly. Son travail a fait l'objet de nombreuses expositions personnelles, notamment au Centre photographique d'Ile-de-France, à la Fondation Serralves à Porto, et au musée Peabody à Harvard. Ses œuvres ont également été présentées dans des expositions collectives de renom, notamment "Africa Remix, l'art contemporain d'un continent" au Centre Pompidou en 2005, à la Biennale de São Paulo en 2006, et à la documenta 12 à Kassel en 2007.

    Guy Tillim SOUTH AFRICAN 1962- Leopold and Mobutu series 6: The statue of Henry Stanley which overlooked Kinshasa in colonial times. It rests on a steamboat that belonged to the African International Association, a company publicly charged by Leopold with a philanthropic and 'civilising' mission that veiled its true purpose of annexing and exploiting natural resources. The statue was removed during the Mobutu period of Africanisation in the 1970s and dumped in a government transport lot in Kinshasa. The boots belonging to the statue are found in another lot, September 2003 signed and numbered 2/5 in pencil in the margin archival pigment ink on 300g cotton paper diptych: paper size 61 by 158,5cm
