      LOUIS (LODEWYK) TIELEMANS (Flemish, 1826-1856) THE BUSY VILLAGE.

      Outstanding oil on canvas village scene shows a man, woman and child returning home with a dog pulled wheelbarrow filled with items on a dirt road. Other activities include a two-horse wagon at a feeding trough, a man seated on a log smoking a pipe, a man harvesting hay, a woman at well filling bucket, a man with two cows. This is all set amongst the village buildings including a church, large windmill and store fronts. The sky is mostly blue with white and gray clouds. Signed lower right "L Tielemans". Housed in a fine antique gesso decorated French style frame. On reverse of stretcher is a Cooling Galleries, London label. SIZE: 22-1/2" x 31-1/2". CONDITION: Relined, very good. 9-97563
