Empire flame mahogany bookcase with two gilt ormolu capital half columns, attributed to Boston cabinetmaker George Archibald, formerly of the partnership of Emmons & Archibald, made from a section of a bookcase originally part of a suite of furniture commissioned for the home library of George Ticknor (1791-1871) Harvard's first professor of modern languages from 1817-1835, companion bookcases are still in use in the Ticknor Room of the Rauner Library at Dartmouth, being sold to benefit the Hood Museum at Dartmouth 106" x 125" x 16" -due to the size of the piece, professional movers are recommended
