The lot includes two lithographs on paper, Laying the Pontoons at Fredericksburg and Battle of Spottsylvania by Thure de Thulstrup, Swedish, American, 1848 to 1930; each is signed and titled in the print, lower left. The lot also includes an offset lithograph print on paper, Queen Louise of Prussia Reviews the Prussian Army after Felicien von Myrbach Rheinfeld, Austrian, 1853 to 1940, signed in the print, lower left. Felician Mirbach, Baron von Reinfeld, was an Austrian nobleman, battle painter, graphic artist and illustrator. One of the founders of the Vienna Secession and the Vienna Workshops, director of the School of Applied Arts in Vienna. A prominent master of the Viennese Art Nouveau era. Thure de Thulstrup, born Bror Thure Thulstrup in Sweden, was an American illustrator with contributions for numerous magazines, including three decades of work for Harper's Weekly.     The lot features a set of five, never framed, authentic chromolithographs from circa 1888 titled, “Battle of Shiloh” and are copyright L. Prang & Co Boston. The original work of art collection was by Thure de Thulstrup (Swedish 1848-1930). The pieces were published by the American Lithographic Company and copyrighted by Louis Prang & Co. of Boston in 1888. The Battle of Shiloh, also known as the Battle of Pittsburg Landing, was a major battle in the Western Theater of the American Civil War and was fought April 7th 1862 in Southwestern Tennessee. U.S. Grant is shown on horseback on the right. Louis Prang was a renowned American printer, lithographer and publisher who was responsible for such wonderful pieces as the Thomas Moran chromolithographs, Arthur Fitzwilliam Tait and Thomas Hill. The pieces are all marked, “BATTLE OF SHILOH”, “Copyright 1888 by L. Prang & Co. Boston”, and “AMERICAN LITHOGRAPHIC CO.” The lot consist of five of the exact “Battle of Shiloh” chromolithographs all showing vivid coloring and overall good condition. Each measures overall 23.5”x17”.

    Thure Thulstrup (NY, 1848-1930), Swedish Girl,

    Est: $500 - $800

    Thure Thulstrup (NY, 1848-1930), Swedish Girl,: watercolor and gouache on paper, signed and dated at lower right "Thulstrup '84," framed under glass. Born into a distinguished diplomatic family, de Thulstrup was educated at a military academy in Stockholm, served in the French Foreign Legion and in the Franco-Prussian War. Initially, he studied art in Paris and continued his studies at the Art Student's League in New York City. In New York, he enjoyed a successful career as an illustrator for Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper and the New York Daily Graphic. During the Spanish-American War, he worked as an illustrator and correspondent for Harper's Weekly and Collier's. Not examined out of the frame. SS 23" x 13.5"; DOA 28.5" x 18.5"

    THULSTRUP ILLUSTRATION OF RUSSIANS RACING ALONG THE NEVA WATERCOLOR Signed Thulstrup lower left for Bror Thure de Thulstrup (1848 - 1930), 7.25 x 12 inch image, watercolor on cardstock. Shows a sleigh race along the Neva, foreground sleigh being watched by a mounted hussar, crowds of people on either side. Pencil marked reverse 'Social Life in Russia, First Article, Racing on the Neva,' along with 'H. Scott, 164 East 107th Street, New York' stamp on reverse. Thulstrup was known for his excellent equestrian and military themed works. Condition ReportVery good noting stray pencil marks to margins and on reverse. Tape remnant on reverse along with evidence of pulled tape. Light age tone, a few stray scratches across image, one above hussar's busby. A couple tiny stains.

    BROR THERE DE THULSTRUP (1848-1930). THE WINNING RUN. The scene shows a baseball game between the New York Giants and Chicago, played at the Old Polo Grounds in New York City on August 6, 1885. The title is "The Winning Run - How Is It, Umpire?" - Drawn by There Thulstrup. In very good clean condition, shows light staining bottom right of border. The subject is clean and undamaged. 18"W x 12"H. Estimated Value $800 - 1,200.
