      MINI FRENCH LADY OIL PAINTING BY AIMEE THIBAULT

      Aimee Thibault, French, 1780 to 1868, oil painting on board depicting an oval shaped miniature portrait of a lady, 1850. Signed and dated lower right. Presented in a wooden frame with a hanging loop on top. Aimee Thibault was born in Paris and exhibited at the Salon from 1804 to 1810. The Salons, beginning in 1667, was the official art exhibition of the Academie des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Between 1748 and 1890 it was arguably the greatest annual or biennial art event in the Western world. She came to the U.S. for a short period 1834 to 1837 and worked in NYC during that time. Her miniatures are in various museums, including the Met, and that of the New York Historical Society. One of a kind artwork.

Elève d’Augustin, d’Etienne-Charles Le Guay et de Daniel Saint, Aimée Thibault exposa au Salon de Paris de 1804 à 1812. Elle fut portraitiste du roi de Rome puis de la cour d’Espagne sous la Restauration. HISTORIQUE : acquis à Auxerres Enchères, le 10 octobre 2010, n° 62.
