    Terffa, Tibebe Born 1948 Harar, lives and works in Addis Abeba. Women. Impression of Harar. Oil on canvas. Signed lower right and dated 1986. H 63,5, W 72,5 cm (support). Framed. In the 1980s Tibebe Terffa frequently painted his hometown of Harari. The traditional Muslim town is now not only a melting pot of the most diverse religions and ethnicities, but also an important trading centre. Colourful patterns of women's garments and classical basketry characterise Terffa's art. We would like to thank Mr Ted Gueller, NGALA, Zurich, for the kind remarks via e-mail, based on photographs, 12.04.2023. Condition report: Good overall impression. Partially strong white shrinking cracks in the dark areas that do not disturb the theme, stretcher slightly pushing through to recto, isolated tiny stains (approx. 1 to 2 mm), presumably from the making. Tibebe Terffa malte in den 1980er Jahren häufig seine Heimatstadt Harari. Die traditionelle muslimische Stadt ist inzwischen nicht nur Schmelztiegel unterschiedlichster Religionen und Ethnien, sondern auch ein wichtiges Handelszentrum. Die farbenfrohen Muster der Frauengewänder und klassischen Korbflechtarbeiten prägen Terffas Kunst. Partiell starke, das Motiv nicht störende Frühschwundrisse in den dunklen Bereichen, Keilrahmen leicht nach recto durchdrückend, vereinzelt winzige Flecken (ca. 1 bis 2 mm), wohl vom Schaffensprozess herrührend.
