Seikichi Takara, a Japanese-born artist, is deeply inspired by the plethora of flora around him. The islands of Hawaii inspired a captivating layering of color both of light and dark. Night onto Day is an immersing acrylic on canvas with layers of paint both in vibrant blues and reds offset by the encompassing black and navy blue. The sparkle of gold glimmers through the black bringing light to the dark. This considerable canvas measuring 50 x 60 inches is a wonderful example of Takara's love of nature and the cycles it travels through.

The edition size: 550 About Seikichi Takara: b.1929 The diverse artistic style fund in Takara's body of work may at first give the impression that the images are the result of several artists. A significant influence of the calligraphic art of Asia is evident in his sumi ink and watercolor paintings. The affinity that Takara feels toward Monet's Water Lily at the Honolulu Academy of Art inspires the artist to create dramatic, impressionistic images. Takara's response to Rothko's emotionally charged blocks of color which reverberate at the viewer is seen in the artist's enveloping, abstract images. Although these styles are based in very different philosophies, each enables the artist to express his emotional response to nature. Nature is the artist?s primary stimulus. The splendor and dynamism of the ocean scapes and breathtaking beauty of the flora of Hawaii, where he has lived since his birth in 1929, are frequently depicted and always felt. Moreover, as a part of nature, man profoundly influences the artist. The reactions experienced by Takara's collectors give the artist inspiration, purpose and direction. Impassioned viewers have described their reactions as being similar to religious experiences and as a motivational force which incites dramatic changes in how they perceive life.
