  • Carol Popp de Szathmáry, Princely Residence in Bucharest, large photo
    Jun. 01, 2022

Carol Popp de Szathmáry, Princely Residence in Bucharest, large photo

    Est: €750 - €1,500

Large, original vintage photograph of the Golescu house, known as the palace on the Mogoșoaiei Bridge, which was used as the royal residence between 1859 and 1866, when Alexandru Ioan Cuza lived here. After the arrival of Prince Carol of Hohenzollern in the country, he lived in this building, which he constantly updated. Between 1866 and 1881, the building underwent numerous modifications, and after 1881 to 1906 it was substantially amplified, reaching a spatial layout similar to that we know today. What marks the frame of the image is the construction that eclipses a part of the central body, it is assumed that this construction would represent the building of the guardhouse of the royal palace. The photo was taken by Carol Popp de Szathmáry. There are no public lighting elements in the photo, which places the time when the photo was taken around 1880.
