    Robert John Swan, 1888 - 1980 The Amulet, Signed oil on canvas enclosed in a contemporary gilt and ebony frame, Exhibited at The Royal Society of Portrait Painters, See label verso, signed. Robert was a portrait, landscape painter. He studied at the Royal Academy Schools and was awarded The Landseer Scholarship. He exhibited thirteen works at the Royal Academy and eight at the Royal Society and British Artists. His studio was at Sydney Close, Fulham. this building which housed a series of studios, was founded by Artists and Sculptors of the late nineteenth-century, notably J. S. Sergent, E. J. Paynter and Alfred Gilbert, sculptor of ‘Eros’ in Piccadilly Circus. Portraits of King George VI, The Queen, are in the Government Art Collection. Further works can be seen at the V & A Museum.
