Mirviss LTD Gallery, New York, 2010; Acquired from above by present owner. Accompanied by Certificate of Authenticity from Joan B. Mirviss LTD Gallery. Suzuki Osamu was a leader of a group of artists working on clay that sought to distance their work from functionality and the formal traditions that held sway for centuries in Japanese crafts. He was a co-founder of the seminal Sodeisha group in 1948, and continued to create for decades at the forefront of the avant-garde. He is most well known for his work in stoneware, such as this sculpture. His work is held in permanent collections of museums around the world. HID01801242017
