      Susumu Ikuta (NC, b. 1934), Two Pieces the first a lidded hexagonal box, hand-painted with grasshopper and foliage in blue (4 x 6 x 5 in.); the second piece a small blue & white dish with grasshopper and white swoop across glaze, footed (1 x 5.75 x 5.75 in.). Each signed on the base. In a News & Observer article, corresponding with a one man show of his work at the Garden Gallery, Ikuta explains: "I am working with sketches every day that use the lines found in your tobacco and cotton plants. I am also fascinated with some of your insect predators which feast on your tobacco and cotton." Ikuta's work is in numerous public and private collections, including the North Carolina Museum of Art, the Mint Museum in Charlotte, NC, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Brooklyn Museum.
