His paintings contain references to brightly coloured neon lights, towering skyscrapers, and provocative images from the mass media. The facial expressions of the subjects reveal absence, disorientation, and melancholy. The figures wear striped clothing, derived from the grid of skyscrapers, set against monochrome backgrounds that evoke the bright neon lights or the darkness of night. Kim's anonymous portraits illustrate hidden human feelings in a materialistic metropolitan city.
