Sun Yee was a versatile artist, being able to paint in the Western and Chinese style and media. She could do figures, landscapes, urban scenes and flowers. Her works are noted for the fine lines (bamboo paintings) and soft touches, like that of the ‘Yan Lan Hong' flowers (Herba Catharanthus Roseus, or sometimes called ‘Joseph's Coat') in the other painting of hers. In the November 2015 Christie's Hong Kong auction, her work Medley Of Dances sold for HK$475,000 . The career of Zhejiang-born Sun Yee parallels that of Georgette Chen, in her cosmopolitan nature involving a few countries. She studied at the Xinhua Art Academy in Shanghai (graduated 1938) and the Nihon University in Tokyo, Japan, before heading to France, where she apprenticed under the French Modernist Fernand Leger (1881-1955). She had exhibited at the Salon des Beaux Arts in Paris in 1953, but held her first solo in 1940, and settled in Singapore in 1954 after her first solo. She set up the Singapore Academy of Art, where she was principal-lecturer.

Sun Yee depicts not a mansion in and of itself, but the road leading to the mansion, with trees obscuring what is no doubt the full magnificence of the facade. Sun Yee studied at the Xinhua Art Academy in Shanghai and the University of Japan in Tokyo before going to France where she studied with noted French modernist, Fernand Leger. Her works have been met with exhibition successes in France and Japan. A competent artist of Chinese brush and oil medium, she had exhibited at the Salon des Beaux Arts in Paris in 1953.
