Hiroshi Sugito, The Rain Drop, Mixed Media, 2004

          Est: €1,500 - €1,950

Mixed media with acrylic, oil and glitter on canvas Hiroshi Sugito (b. 1970) - Japanese painter Signed, dated and inscribed ‘Hiroshi Sugito 2004 / the rain drop’ in pencil on the reverse of the canvas Dimensions: 25.5 x 40.5 cm Hiroshi Sugito’s paintings, attributed to the Japanese pop art, combine abstract and concrete elements and reveal influences of Far Eastern and Western painting. In his works, the artist often deals with childish fantasies, dreams and altered realities. Condition: The work is in very good condition, showing only the lightest framing marks. Hiroshi Sugito (b. 1970) Hiroshi Sugito’s artistic work is closely linked to his biography. As a child, he spent several years in the US, so that he had to relearn his mother tongue, when returning to Japan. Moreover, his childhood was ‘extended’, as he had to repeat a number of classes. For this reason, the artist seems to have kept a child’s view on the world for a long time. Later, Sugito studied traditional Japanese painting, called ‘Nihon-ga’, and then worked as a freelance artist in his native city of Nagoya. He is a close friend of Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara (b. 1959). (cko) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.

Hiroshi Sugito (b. 1970) Hiroshi Sugito’s artistic work is closely linked to his biography. As a child, he spent several years in the US, so that he had to relearn his mother tongue, when returning to Japan. Besides, his childhood was extended due to the requirement of repeating a number of classes. For this reason, the artist seems to have kept a child’s view on the world. Sugito later studied traditional Japanese painting, called ‘Nihon-ga’, and has become active as a freelance artist in his native city of Nagoya. A close friendship connects him with the Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara (b. 1959). Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.

The fine translucent application of paint, the visually open spaces and the fresco-like dryness of the surface are inspired by traditional Japanese painting the artist had learned, when attending university. The present diptych is titled 'Bridge 1' and is a characteristic example of his naive painting, which is especially committed to those thoughts arousing between the visible lines. Both paintings are verso signed and dated with pencil 'Hiroshi Sugito 2002'. The left painting is also inscribed with 'L', whereas the right painting inscribed with 'R'. The stretcher and the frame verso reveal the labels of two galleries: Nicole Klagsbrun Gallery, NY and Ota House, Marina del Rey, California. Each painting measures 23 x 25.5 cm and is in good condition; the paint surface only slightly rubbed. The framed overall dimensions are 25.5 x 53.3 cm.
