Painter, b. 1944 -

A Georgia native, Freddie Styles attended Morris Brown College. He was an artist-in-residence at Clark Atlanta University and Spelman College, and was the recipient of purchase awards from the Atlanta Life Insurance Company. His work can be found in the collections of the Spelman College Museum of Art, Clark Atlanta University and the Paul R. Jones Collection, University of Delaware, and the Johnson Publishing Company, Chicago.

Abstract artist Freddie Styles often references nature in his paintings and collages throughout his career. In his such works as Untitled, Styles finds inspiration in nature and is often heavily influenced by gardening - another one of his deep passions. His forms are reminiscent of organic vegetation which he achieves by a unique technique that imitates nature's forms, textures, patterns and colors.

Styles is an Atlanta-based abstract painter, who credits his rural upbringing as influential on his work. He believes a rural lifestyle creates a deep connection—a sensitivity-- between the land and the people owing their existence to it. He graduated from Morris Brown College in Atlanta, and served as artist-in-residence at several institutions, including Clark Atlanta University and Spelman College. A Georgia native, Freddie Styles is a graduate of Morris Brown College and lives in Atlanta. He was an artist-in-residence at Clark Atlanta University and Spelman College, and was the recipient of purchase awards from the Atlanta Life Insurance Company. His work can be found in the collections of the High Museum, Spelman College Museum of Art, Clark Atlanta University and the Paul R. Jones Collection, University of Delaware, and the Johnson Publishing Company, Chicago.

Provenance: acquired directly from the artist; private collection, Chicago. Abstract artist Freddie Styles often references nature in his paintings and collages throughout his career. In his such works as Untitled, Styles finds inspiration in nature and is often heavily influenced by gardening - another one of his deep passions. His forms are reminiscent of organic vegetation which he achieves by a unique technique that imitates nature's forms, textures, patterns and colors. A Georgia native, Freddie Styles attended Morris Brown College.
