Ryszard Stryjec (born on April 30, 1932 in Lipniszki near Lida , June 5, 1997 in Gdansk ) - Polish graphic artist , painter , sculptor , and ceramist.


The Stryj family for merits for Poland received property in the Borderlands , so-called panis bene merentium (bread well deserved). Father, Jan Stryjec (a legionnaire ), was arrested and murdered by the NKVD , and the family was deported to Kazakhstan . After World War II, the family returned to Poland ( 1946 ) and settled in the Tri-City , where in the years 1950-1952 the artist studied at the State High School of Fine Arts in Gdynia-Orlowo (currently part of the Art School Complex in Gdynia-Orlowo). In the years 1952-1958 he continued his education at the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Sopot, later transferred to Gdansk (since 1996 the name of the school: Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk ).

He studied painting in the studios of Professor Stanislaw Teisseyre and Krystyna Lady-Studnicka, as well as graphics with professor Zygmunt Karolak . In the years 1955 - 1962 he was associated with the ceramic group " Kadyny ", headed by Hanna Zulawska . From 1965 , he lived in a house at the Gdansk Fish Market , where a commemorative plaque dedicated to the artist is now built; by a longtime friend, a sculptor from Gdansk, Bronislaw Tusk .

Ryszard Stryjec practiced painting, sculpture and ceramics, and above all, graphics. He created several thousand works. A characteristic feature of his work was the interweaving of fantastic, fairytale and biblical characters into Gdansk motifs. The artist's works have been presented at numerous group and individual exhibitions at home and abroad, including in France , Germany , the Netherlands and Finland, and are found in many private collections of the Tri-City.

He was buried in the Srebrzysko Cemetery in Gdansk (area V, TAR I unit number, row 1)
